Drawing Jam Highlights: from plants to people
Drawing Jam, an Art For All summer drawing series, is in full swing. We offer 2 hours sessions every other Saturday through the end of August. The goal of DJ is to create a space for people to relax and enjoy the joy of drawing for fun in a friendly and supportive setting.
Our first session was a modest beginning with eight artists in the studio. It was great to see a few new faces along with some AFA regulars. There was plenty of socializing and sharing of ideas among the artists. I want to give an enthusiastic shout-out to Helen and Dave Halloran at the West Concord Flower Shop for helping us get the first session off the ground. They graciously lent us some amazing flowers and plants to serve as inspiration. As with every new venture, there were a few hiccups and lessons learned, but overall we were off to a good start.
The second session was last Saturday, and even though it was a holiday weekend, we had a full house! We had a great variety of people show up. There were young and old, adolescents to older adults, accomplished artists, and self-described beginners. Some people worked on self-portraits, some worked from props set out on the tables and others drew figures from their imagination. The common denominator was that everyone seemed to be having a good time. It was a lively and supportive group and the studio was alive with conversation and helpful feedback. We ended the session by giving the artists the opportunity to put their work up on the wall and share it with the rest of the group. It was great to celebrate everyone’s creativity.
Our next Drawing Jam session will be Saturday 7/20/24 from 4p to 6p. Please register online and join us for more joy in drawing. Hope to see you there. Register for a Drawing Jam workshop here
